Sentinel-2 · 10m resolution
Turbidity (NDTI)
How much suspended sediment is clouding the water.
Benefits you by: catching pollution or runoff events early, and tracking whether a water body is getting clearer or murkier over time.
Chlorophyll (NDCI)
The concentration of algae/phytoplankton in the water.
Benefits you by: spotting the early signs of a harmful algal bloom before it becomes visible to the naked eye.
Total Suspended Solids (TSS)
The overall particulate load in the water column.
Benefits you by: understanding sediment transport — useful for assessing erosion, dredging impact, or construction runoff nearby.
Water Extent (NDWI)
Exactly where open water is versus land.
Benefits you by: mapping a lake or reservoir's true boundary, and tracking shrinkage or flooding over time.
Algal Bloom (SABI)
The intensity of an active surface algal bloom.
Benefits you by: giving an early warning specifically for bloom outbreaks, distinct from general chlorophyll levels.
Floating Algae (FAI)
Floating mats of algae or scum sitting on the surface.
Benefits you by: detecting visible surface cyanobacteria mats, which are a direct human/animal health concern.
Water Clarity (Secchi depth estimate)
An estimate of how deep light penetrates the water.
Benefits you by: giving a single, intuitive "how clear is this water" number that summarises overall water quality.
Landsat 9 · 30m resolution
Natural Colour (4-3-2)
A true-colour photo, the way your eyes would see it from space.
Benefits you by: giving a plain visual reference point before diving into the calculated indices.
False Colour Vegetation (5-4-3)
Vegetation rendered in bright red, exaggerating plant presence.
Benefits you by: letting you instantly spot healthy vs. stressed vegetation zones by eye.
Urban / Bare Soil (7-6-4)
Built-up areas and bare soil rendered in distinct colours.
Benefits you by: visually separating a city's footprint from surrounding bare land at a glance.
Agriculture (6-5-2)
Active cropland highlighted in bright green.
Benefits you by: quickly identifying which parts of a region are actively farmed.
NDVI — Vegetation Health
A numeric score for how healthy and dense vegetation is.
Benefits you by: monitoring crop or forest health over a season or several years, not just a visual impression.
MNDWI — Water Bodies
An alternative water-detection index, more reliable over urban or turbid water than NDWI.
Benefits you by: cross-checking water extent results, especially in built-up or muddy areas.
NDBI — Built-up Index
The degree of impervious, built-up surface in a numeric score.
Benefits you by: quantifying urban expansion with an actual number you can track over years, not just a photo.
Landsat 9 · 30m resolution
Iron Oxide / Ferric Minerals
The presence of iron-bearing minerals at the surface.
Benefits you by: giving a first-pass mineral prospecting screen before committing to an expensive ground survey.
Clay Minerals
Clay-rich soil or rock at the surface.
Benefits you by: hinting at soil permeability — relevant to groundwater recharge and construction planning.
Carbonate Rocks (Limestone/Dolomite)
Carbonate bedrock exposure.
Benefits you by: mapping the broad geological framework of a region without a field geologist.
Evaporites (Salt Deposits)
Surface salt crust extent.
Benefits you by: tracking a saline lake's level and salinity trend over time through its visible salt crust.
All Minerals (Combined)
An overall mineral diversity score combining the above.
Benefits you by: giving one quick "how geologically complex is this area" overview.
Sentinel-2 · 10m resolution
Aquatic Reeds & Rushes
Emergent wetland plants growing right at the water's edge.
Benefits you by: monitoring wetland ecological health and waterbird habitat over time.
Riparian Shrubs & Trees
Woody vegetation growing along water courses.
Benefits you by: assessing erosion-buffering vegetation and general ecosystem health along a shoreline.
Halophytes (Salt-tolerant Plants)
Vegetation specifically adapted to salty soil.
Benefits you by: mapping the extent of soil salinity around a shoreline without a soil survey.
Desert Scrub
Sparse dryland vegetation on the upper shoreline.
Benefits you by: tracking desertification or land degradation trends in arid surroundings.
Mud Flats / Bare Shoreline
Exposed bare sediment between vegetation zones.
Benefits you by: flagging recent water level drops through newly-exposed sediment area.
Submerged Aquatic Vegetation
Underwater plants visible through clear water.
Benefits you by: a positive water-quality signal — submerged plants only show up when the water is clear enough for light to reach them.
VIIRS / Sentinel-2 / Landsat 9
Nighttime Lights (VIIRS)
How brightly a city or district glows at night, monthly since 2012.
Benefits you by: quantifying urban growth or economic activity over years — one of the most reliable satellite proxies for development.
True Colour — High Resolution
A sharp 10m Sentinel-2 photo, about 3× sharper than the Landsat option.
Benefits you by: letting you actually see individual streets, buildings, and new construction by eye.
Built-up Index (NDBI)
Impervious surface expansion, as a number.
Benefits you by: quantifying exactly how much a city has grown, not just showing a picture of it.
Copernicus DEM / Sentinel-1 / Sentinel-2
Elevation & Hillshade
A raised-relief terrain view with simulated low-angle sunlight.
Benefits you by: revealing subtle mounds (ancient tells) and depressions that are completely invisible from directly overhead.
Slope & Micro-terrain
Terrain steepness, highlighting sharp, unnatural breaks.
Benefits you by: flagging the edges of mounds, ditches, and old riverbanks that natural erosion wouldn't produce.
Vegetation Anomaly (Crop Marks)
How much each patch of vegetation deviates from its immediate surroundings.
Benefits you by: detecting buried walls and structures through their effect on crop growth above them — the classic aerial-archaeology technique.
Radar Subsurface Signature (SAR)
Radar backscatter that can penetrate dry sand and soil.
Benefits you by: revealing buried paleochannels under dry ground — the same technique that discovered ancient rivers under the Sahara.
Real object counting and classification, not index readings
🌴 Tree / Palm Counting
Automatically counts individual tree crowns within a drawn boundary.
Benefits you by: answering "how many date palms are actually on my farm?" without a manual walk-through count.
💧 Water Body Inventory
Counts and measures every distinct lake, reservoir, and pond in a large region.
Benefits you by: producing a full water-resource inventory for a province or country in one reading, instead of manually cataloguing each one.
🗺 Land Cover Classification
Automatically segments any region into distinct land cover types with exact areas.
Benefits you by: getting an instant "what's actually out there" breakdown of any region, no manual training data needed.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need any GIS or remote sensing background to use this?
No. Every index comes with a plain-language explanation and a concrete recommendation — you don't need to understand the underlying formula to use the results.
How accurate are the results?
It depends on the index — some (like NDVI or water extent) are highly validated; others (like turbidity or tree counts) are strong estimates rather than lab-certified numbers. See the full
Accuracy & Methodology page for an honest, index-by-index breakdown.
Can I use this for any location in the world?
Yes — search or draw a region anywhere on Earth. The platform isn't restricted to any single country or water body.
What's the difference between the Compare slider and the Trend chart?
Compare Start↔End shows a visual before/after slider directly on the map for two points in time. Trend chart plots a monthly line graph across your whole date range — better for seeing a gradual pattern rather than a single before/after snapshot.
Why does a large region sometimes take longer?
More area means more satellite pixels to process. The platform automatically balances resolution against region size to keep things fast, but a country-scale query will still take longer than a single farm.
Can I upgrade or downgrade my plan later?
Yes, any time — click the "⬆ Upgrade" button next to your plan badge in the app header.
